Construction at Shinfield Park reached a significant milestone last week, with a steel signing ceremony on site as part of the completion of the first structural steel frame.
The ceremony was attended by Cllr Mark Ashwell, Wokingham Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic development, sport, leisure, countryside and the arts, alongside representatives from developer Wrenbridge, building contractor MCS, and the wider project team.
The process of steel signing sees those involved in a development sign their name on a steel beam before it is lifted into place, commemorating the occasion and recognising the efforts of all those who have contributed to bringing the project to this stage.
Speaking after the steel signing ceremony, Cllr Ashwell said “It was fantastic to be onsite at Shinfield Park earlier this week. Work is progressing well and this new modern commercial park represents a significant economic investment in Wokingham borough.”
This milestone comes on the back of significant progress across the site in recent months.
Demolition works to the basement area are now largely complete, and new retaining walls, which hold back earth and prevent soil from moving, have been installed at various points around the site.
This work has been essential in supporting the next stage of the development, which involves redistributing soil across the site to create a level, stable base ready for the construction of the new units.
At the south-west end of the site, this levelling work is already completed, and the steel structure of the first unit has now been erected.
Robin Means, a director at Wrenbridge, said: “Reaching this milestone is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project.
“The installation of the steel frame for the first unit is a very visible sign that this development is starting to take shape, and we are delighted to have welcomed Cllr Ashwell to site to mark the occasion.”
Shinfield Park is expected to be completed in Spring 2027, delivering a modern new commercial park with approximately 20,000 sqm of flexible commercial floorspace across five high-quality units.
