A GROUP of men who love to build things together has been busy preparing for this year’s Wokingham Lions Club Swimathon fundraiser event.
Members of Wokingham Men’s Shed are not planning to jump into the water along with other participants (as far as we are aware).
Instead, they have created a very professional-looking set of lap counters to help swimmers make an even bigger splash at Swimathon 2026 in September.
The Wokingham Lions Club, which organises the Swimathon is delighted with the addition to their fundraiser, which will enable teams to record how many laps of the pool they achieve as they swim to raise money for their chosen charity or organisation.
“We’re delighted to be working with Wokingham Men’s Shed, another local group,” said a Lions spokesperson.
“We’re grateful to the guys for making such great lap counters for the teams to use in September.”
The Wokingham Swimathon is an event for all ages and swimming abilities, in which teams of up to eight people can swim in relay to raise money for their favourite cause.
It’s designed to be a fun event, and is not a race.
People who take part can enjoy swimming with family, friends or colleagues while raising money for good causes.
Wokingham Men’s Shed provides a community space for men in Wokingham to connect, share skills, and build things together, combatting isolation and loneliness through practical, friendly activity.
Swimathon 2026 will take place this year in Nuffield Health’s 20 metre pool, on Sunday, September 20.
The Lions thank Nuffield Health and Clifton Ingram for their support and sponsorship.
