Wargrave has become the first village to be equipped with an innovative multi-purpose traffic camera, thanks to a partnership between Wokingham borough council and Thames Valley Police.
The device, installed at the junction of High Street and School Lane, can catch drivers crossing a red light or speeding through a green light.
Police chose the location following a number of collisions, as well as Wokingham borough council passing on local concerns about drivers ignoring red lights.
A spokesperson said: “We’ll keep working with the police to ensure it’s making a difference, as part of our joint efforts to make it as safe as possible to get around.”
This is one of three sites chosen by Thames Valley Police for the first phase of this project, working with councils across the area it serves.
The spokesperson added: “We’re really pleased to be supporting the community’s concerns – and fully support the police’s reminder that jumping a red light can have lethal consequences.”
