Reading FC forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan is close to completing a permanent move away from the club after the Royals have accepted a bid from Danish side AC Horsens.
The surpirse move will see Ehibhatiomnhan move to Denmark for a fee believed to be in the region of £650,000.
Reading manager Leam Richardson confirmed the club had accepted a bid for Ehibhatiomhan after the player was left out of Saturday’s pre-season victory over Woking.
The deal is expected to bring an end to Ehibhatiomhan’s time with the Royals, despite him signing a new two-year contract with the club last summer.
His best goal scoring return in the league came last campaign where he netted 9 League One goals in 42 appearances.
Ehibhatiomhan made his Reading debut in 2021 and has made more than 100 appearances for the club.
He was named the EFL League One Player of the Month for March after scoring six goals during the month, but has now been allowed to leave with one year remaining on his contract.
Horsens were promoted to the Danish top flight last season and are understood to have been looking to strengthen their attacking options.
The reported fee would provide a significant boost to Reading’s transfer budget, although the club are now short of attacking options.
Jack Marriott suffered an injury during the victory over Woking, leaving Jacob Brown and Sean Patton as the club’s available senior forwards.
Richardson is now expected to look for another striker, with the money generated by Ehibhatiomhan’s sale potentially helping to fund further recruitment.
Reading are due to begin their League One campaign away at Bromley on August 8.
