Reading FC travel to Colchester United in Capital One Cup first round

Reading will travel to face Colchester United in the first round of the Capital One Cup in August.

The draw, which took place this morning, pits Royals, who were seeded, against Colchester for the first time since 2002.

A Nicky Forster brace and an Andy Hughes goal saw Reading triumph at Madejski Stadium in the Division Two clash.

But the U’s certainly have the better of Reading at their own ground with Royals having not won at Colchester since 1981 in the old third division, failing to come out on top in their last seven visits.

Last season, Reading beat Newport County 3-1 at this stage thanks to goals from Pavel Pogrebnyak, Nick Blackman and Craig Tanner.

Nigel Adkins’ men went on to beat Scunthorpe United in round two before crashing out away to Derby County.
