READING Museum and the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) are launching a new launching a new series of sessions for neurodiverse visitors of all ages.
Developed in partnership with Autism Berkshire, museums my way aims to provide a safe environment to explore the museums at times when they are usually closed to the public or are less busy.
There will be facilitated activities on themes inspired by the museums’ collections, and a quiet break-out space.
Session will also include reduced volume of gallery interactive sounds, sensory backpacks and ear defenders.
The first session of the Museums My Way programme will take place at MERL, Redlands Road, Reading, on Monday, February 21 from 10am until 2pm.
A Thames Valley Police car will be at the museum.
Autism Berkshire will also be there to encourage visitors to sign up to the Thames Valley Autism Alert Card scheme.
It is free to attend, but places must be booked. Siblings, families, carers and friends are all welcome.
All activities are optional and visits can be made at any point within the event times.
