MEMBERS of a borough fundraising group are getting ready to host their third Swimathon.
Since Wokingham Lions Club first launched the swimming event in 2024, it has already raised more than £20,000 for good causes.
The participants this year will be able to raise money for their school or chosen charity and add to this total.
Swimmers aged eight to 108, of any ability, are encouraged to take part.
The event isn’t a race.
Instead, each team decides the number of laps (2 lengths) they think they can complete in a 50 minute session and aims to achieve this target by swimming in relay.
While spending time in the pool with friends, family or colleagues, swimmers can also put every penny they collect towards a good cause.
The Swimathon will take place at Nuffield Health’s 20m pool on Sunday, September 20.
It will start at 9am and run until 5pm.
Entry costs £30 for each squad of up to eight swimmers.
People are advised to sign up early as spaces are limited.
