DREAMCOAT Stars is returning for its third UK tour, combining music from Broadway musicals and classic chart-toppers.
It mixes medleys and musicals such as Les Misérables, We Will Rock You, Dirty Dancing, Hairspray, West Side Story.
Keith Jack, one of the show’s producers and leading stars, said: “It’s built out of people who have played leads in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat through the years, and it’s a whole night full of stories.
“We also do a big Q&A as well as a lot of musical theatre numbers from Joseph to Dirty Dancing to We Will Rock You would do a big Jersey Boys medley.
“It features some of the favourite songs from the West End and Broadway, as well as a local choir who joins us for a few of the numbers, too.
“It’s a fun and energetic night out that people can take part in and sing along to.
He explained that he came up with the concept during lockdown: “I approached my friend, Matt, who has also played Joseph and owns a production company.
“He’d hired me for panto, and four months later we were planning the tour.”
Speaking of Joseph, he said: “I think it spans the decades– everyone has their Joseph, be it Donny Osmond or Jason Donovan.
“Schools still do productions of it, and we get a lot of people coming to the show telling us about their own performances.
“It’s a family show, it’s fairly light, so we make sure our show is like that; we don’t take ourselves too seriously and have a laugh.”
He explains that the audience is very much part of the show.
“The type of musicals which have been touring recently shows that people do enjoy taking part and those kind of all-in-one-knight kind of shows.
“Shows like Wicked are always going to be incredible, but often people want ot go and sing along to them, which isn’t as common on the West End, for example.
“Here, that’s very much the fun, and I think people are looking for that more than before.”
As for what the audience can expect from the show: “I think the ending is really fun: we do a double medley which gets everyone on their feet, of all ages.
“The Dirty Dancing part is quite fun in Act 1, because that moment when you start that song, the whole audience immediately wants to sing it.
“We have so much fun doing the dances and we love feeling the audience being part of the show.”
Dreamcoat Stars is to be performed at The Kenton Theatre in Henley on Thursday, April 4, and then on May 15 at Camberley Theatre.
