Wokingham MP Sir John Redwood was one of 60 Conservative MPs to vote against a clause that forms part of the government’s plans to deport Channel migrants to Rwanda.
Tory right-wingers, including Sir John, ignored pleas for unity on Tuesday in what was the first of a series of votes on the plans scheduled for this week.
The debate was captured live by the BBC Parliament television channel. An image was subsequently posted to social media channels by Wokingham Liberal Democrats with the suggestion he was “..pretty relaxed about voting to ignore international law.”
When approached for comment by Wokingham Today, a spokesperson for Sir John’s office in the House of Commons said: “Seriously?!
One would have thought that Sir John’s contributions to the debate would have been of much more interest.”
