SOUTH Berkshire Singers joined with St Teresa’s Catholic Academy Chamber Choir for their Winter Concert in Wokingham, titled: A Christmas Celebration.
The event, heard by more than three hundred people, included festive music: Torches, Once in Royal David’s City, five movements from A Christmas Cantata by Geoffrey Bush (including The first good joy that Mary had, When Jesus Christ was four years old, and Little Jesus sweetly sleep).
The audience joined in with several carols including O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, with Simon Dinsdale accompanying on the church organ.
St Teresa’s Catholic Academy Chamber Choir sang Baby Jesus Sleeps, I’m gonna Shine, The Muppets Christmas Carol Medley, and Sing the Love, directed by Krystle Hewitson.
The two choirs combined to sing Away in a Manger arranged by Will Todd, and For Him All Stars have Shone, by Bob Chilcot, finishing with A Christmas Blessing by John Rutter.
And the concert concluded with a Jazz inspired arrangement of Silent Night, The Twelve Days of Christmas, with everyone joining together to sing Jingle Bells.
The choir thanks members of the audience for their generosity in raising £3,300, which has been donated to Corpus Christi Africa Fund (CCAF).
A Corpus Christi Church representative said: “The Africa Fund Committee would like to say a very big thank you to the South Berkshire Singers for giving the Carol Concert at Corpus Christi Parish Church.
“We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort and energy given to providing the concert.
“The donation is, of course, enormously appreciated, and will go a very long way to meeting the fund objectives to provide an Uji meal to every pupil at Our Lady of Nazareth School in Nairobi every term day of the school year in 2026.”
The choir also sang for the residents of Acorn Drive Community Centre.
Their next concert can be heard on Saturday’ April 18, at St Paul’s Church, Wokingham.
