SINCE Easter, when South Berkshire Singers (SBS) performed Vivaldi’s Gloria, Chilcott’s Jubilate and Chilcott’s Gloria, the choir has been practising a completely different programme of music for its summer concert, Songs of Stage and Screen.
“This included toe-tapping rhythms and feel-good favourites with guests ‘4 in a bar’ Saxophone Quartet,” said SBS member Dave Donaldson.
In the first half of the concert the choir sang: What a Wonderful World, Moon River, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, a medley from Les Miserables (with solos from Hamish Bruce, Nick Hird, Sandra Lewis, David Smart, and Lynne Smith) and Rhythm of Life.
Guest performers 4 in a Bar’ played tunes including Dream a Little Dream of Me and You’ve got a Friend in me.
“After the interval, the choir sang Zadok the Priest, You’ll be Back (starring Doug Cleary as Mad King George) followed by a medley of Bond themes,” said Mr Donaldson.
“And ‘4 in a Bar’ played Cabaret and Bring Me Sunshine, while the choir concluded the concert with Let the River Run, Hallelujah and Crocodile Rock.
“ The audience were invited to sing along at this point, and wholeheartedly joined in.”
Limbcare offers hope, advice and peer support to amputees, limb impaired individuals, communities, families and others impacted around them.
South Berkshire Singers’ concert, held at the Caldwell Hall, Holme Grange school, was attended by more than 200 people, and raised £3,300 for Limbcare.
The Choir was directed by Katherine Walker, and accompanied by Simon Dinsdale, with Lionel Browne on bass guitar and Richard Cole on drums.
At the interval refreshments were served by volunteers from Limbcare, who also helped with car parking duties, marshalling and publicity.
SBS is grateful for the generosity of its audience, whose generosity will help Limbcare to continue its vital work.
