Reading FC midfielder Lewis Wing has challenged the team to ‘finish on a high’ when they host Blackpool on Saturday following their defeat to Burton Albion.
Having already secured League One safety the previous weekend, the Royals lost out to fellow survival hopefuls Burton 3-2 on Saturday.
Wing was again on the scoresheet as he took his League One tally of goals to 10 with a stunning free-kick.
“It’s disappointing, we had a lot of travelling fans and we wanted to put a performance on for them and finish on a high, but it didn’t turn out that way,” said Wing.
“I felt as though they wanted it that little bit more than us with something to play for, and today it showed.
“It was a relief to score and get us back into the game, but then unfortunately they score a few minutes later.
“I’m more disappointed about the result, it’s nice to score but I would have liked to finish with three points away from home.
“When your confidence is high you don’t think about the moments where you score, it just naturally happens. It’s obviously nice to pick up another goal and hopefully I can continue that.”
Wing is now focused on the last game of the campaign when the Royals host Blackpool and wants the fans to be able to celebrate the end of the season.
He continued: “We’ve got a couple of days off now and we’re back to work to prepare for Blackpool. It’s going to be another big game and they have a lot to play for. We want to finish the season on a high at home with our fans so we can celebrate.
“I wish we were pushing for promotion this year but obviously things did go that way.
“I’m looking forward to the game, if we were playing a team with nothing to play for it would be a bit more of a friendly, but Blackpool going for the play-offs makes it all to play for and exciting.
“The fans were here today in their numbers again just like they have been all season. It will be nice to reward them with a win next week and to celebrate after.”
