Steps are being taken to move on a travellers’ camp that has been set up on a popular Wokingham playing fields – and been accused of dining in a nearby hotel without paying.
A group of caravans have parked on land behind the tennis courts and play park in Cantley Park.
Wokingham Borough Council is now undertaking legal action to move the illegal encampment on. Thames Valley Police is also aware of the situation and liaising with the council.
However, The Wokingham Paper understands that the residents have been making themselves at home.
We have been told that a group of them visited the nearby Cantley Lodge Hotel’s restaurant and ordered a meal then walked out without paying.
Our source said: “They ordered a lot of food and ate it all before leaving without paying the bill.”
