THERE was one element of the recent Twyford Together family fun run that won’t create lasting memories – organisers used one of the world’s first fully recyclable paper cups.
Participants at the event, held at The Piggott School on Sunday, October 6, were served drinks in a Frugal Cup, a new eco-friendly alternative to difficult-to-recycle cups.
More than 400 people took part in the event, which The Wokingham Paper covered last week.
And in keeping with its desire to be a plastic-free village, organisers took extra steps to ensure the beverages were eco-friendly.
Made by Frugalpac, the Frugal Cup is the UK’s first fully recyclable coffee cup made from recycled paper. It has two elements that separate easily so that both the paperboard and food grade liner can be easily recycled during the standard paper recycling process, preventing the cup from being incinerated or ending up in landfill.

Gordon Holmes, leader of Twyford Together initiative Twyford Rethinks Its Plastic, was equally pleased with the link-up. He was at the event demonstrating how to make bricks from plastic waste.
“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Frugalpac help to raise awareness in our community about the ongoing issues associated with recycling,” he said.
“Frugal Cups are the only paper cups in the UK which are made from 100% recycled paper and can be recycled as part of the mainstream waste process, so we were delighted to introduce them to the community at our flagship event.
“We hope this event and future events will consider the impact of the cups they use and explore alternatives such as the Frugal Cup as a result.”
Frugal Cups come in three sizes – 8oz, 12oz and 16oz, and a special paper lid – which utilises dry-in-place technology and sustainable wood fibre – has also been added to its range.
