NEW READING FC manager Ruben Selles has his sights set on making several new additions before the start of the League One campaign.
The Royals have faced financial issues which has limited their transfer activity with the club being under a transfer embargo for the previous two seasons.
Despite restrictions being eased, Selles admitted that there are still some limitations in place.
“We need to rebuild the team and the club,” said Selles.
“It’s exciting to be here at this club with the potential, the fans, the facilities, the players we already have and are getting in.
“We got our first two targets. You can see they align with the football we want to play.
“We have other priorities in other positions and hopefully in the coming hours, days, hopefully not weeks, we will get them through the door.
“We are working with some limitations. We can work right now with free agents and loan players and we are working on transfer fees and how we will manage that with the league.”
So far the Royals have signed two free agents from Cambridge United. Midfielder Harvey Knibbs and striker Sam Smith have both joined the club.
Selles is keen to bolster his squad before the opening match on Saturday, August 5 against Peterborough United.
He continued: “It will be a hard league, a very physical league, very competitive with a lot of matches. We need to prepare a squad that is ready to play every three days.
“We’re intense. A team working together, organised in defending and attacking, trying to find the opposition goal as quickly as possible and create chances. To be full of energy for 95 minutes.
“It’s a balance between experienced and young players and that’s something we will try to find.
“We don’t have enough first team players. We need more.”
