Wokingham MP Clive Jones has said new government data shows that Liberal Democrat-led councils are the best in the country for recycling, with Wokingham Borough Council achieving a 58% recycling rate.
The annual figures for 2024-25 published by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), revealed that councils run by the Liberal Democrats are amongst the 14 of the top 20 councils.
In Wokingham, the Lib Dem-led Wokingham has been ranked 14 out of 321 councils in England, sending tonnes of household waste for reuse, recycling, or composting every week.
In the last year, Wokingham had the 12th largest increase in recycling out of 321 councils in England.
Commenting on the figures, Jones said: “Lib Dem councils are paving the way by making it easier for residents to recycle and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
“Even with the national challenges of the last year, we have maintained a recycling rate of 58% and committed to a more sustainable future.
“We aren’t stopping here; we will continue to innovate to ensure Wokingham stays at the forefront of recycling in the UK.”
