Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, sported a poppy crocheted by the Barkham Hookers Charity Group during Prime Minister’s questions (PMQs) on Wednesday.
This is the second year that Clive Jones has worn a poppy crocheted by the charity featuring a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) button in the centre.
The charity brings residents together to crochet and raise money for charity, raising over £64,000 in the last 13 years. Beginners’ workshops for children and intermediate sessions in the local community are also run by Gaynor White of the charity.
This year, the bespoke poppies crocheted by the charity are being sold in the Bradbury Centre in Wokingham, alongside the Wokingham poppy appeal, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from October 30 until Saturday, November 8.
Bespoke poppies are £10 each, £5 for ‘posh poppies’ and £3 for purple poppies for pets. 100% of the proceeds for all sales goes directly to the poppy appeal.
Clive Jones said: “I was proud to wear my poppy crocheted by the wonderful Barkham Hookers charity group, including a REME button just a few days after their parade through Wokingham.
“Last year, I also had a poppy with the badge of the Royal Engineers, the regiment that my father served in 22 years, including during the Second World War.
“I encourage everyone in the community to show their support for such a brilliant local charity raising money as Remembrance Day approaches.”
