Twyford Singers’ summer concert transported their audience across continents bringing joy, passion, sadness and a great deal of fun.
A Night in the West End at Loddon Hall, Twyford on Saturday, June 24, included opera choruses by Verdi, Wagner, Tchaikovsky and more.
It concluded with songs from West End musicals such as The Lion King and West Side Story. The choir was ably directed by Helen Styles – who had the audience joining in with Sing a Simple Melody.
The singing was accompanied with skill by Judith Creighton on the piano, with Tim Garner on percussion, and Katie Styles playing the violin.
Twyford Singers were delighted to be joined by Joanna Sleight, mezzo-soprano, who sang solos from Eugene Onegin and Stephen Sondheim with emotion. Jo was joined by Helen in the moving West Side Story duet A Boy Like That.
Sarah Fulton-Urry, soprano, gave a comical rendition of Adelaide’s Lament from Guys and Dolls.

An ever-popular encore of the Rhythm of Life which needs four hands at the keyboard saw another choir member, Kathryn Le Coz, joining Judith.
The song had everyone smiling and tapping their feet at the end of a very successful concert. The afternoon included homemade cake and cold drinks in the interval.
