A MUSIC charity said goodbye to one of its longest standing committee members at the end of its children’s performance gala.
Jenny Brown, chair of the organisation’s choral section, is stepping down from her post after more than two decades with Woodley Festival of Music and Arts.
At the close of this year’s festival Jenny, and her husband Colin, who was also festival chairman for many years, were presented with a gift.
Co-chair Fiona Fisher, said: “Jenny is a lovely person who will be much missed.
“She has lived in the Wokingham area for around 20 years, inspiring children to learn music.
“She’s a teacher not only by profession, but by heart.
“Parents really respect her, and so do the children.”
After years of sharing music with youngsters in Woodley, Jenny and Colin Brown will be moving to Sheffield to spend more time with their family.
“Jenny has been inspirational not only in the borough, but within the choral music industry nationwide,” said Ms Fisher.
“She’s very well known in choral circles, having links with regional and national choirs, and is very good friends with renowned composer and choral director Douglas Coombes.
“Although she is moving North, we very much hope that she will return to visit us at next year’s festival.
“She runs a very good choral section, and she’s very knowledgeable, but she’s also such a jolly person, and very welcoming to children.”
At the gala close, the group’s primary sponsor Ann Manning, managing director of Manning UK thanked Jenny for the significant contribution she has made to the Woodley festival.
The gala has been giving children the chance to perform for 54 years, and enables around 2,000 children to take part each year.
