The planning and transport committee at Wokingham town council has objected to a planning application for signage at the planned new Sports Direct shop in Market Place, Wokingham.
Although the decision will be made by planning officers at Wokingham borough council, the committee at the town council discussed the application, and made the following objections. It said the planned vinyl sign on the window removes the window view, and does not fit in with neighboring shops and premises.
It added that the use of large vinyl signs have not been allowed in other similar applications.
I|t also noted that there have also been reports that loud external works to the building took place on a Sunday morning, which it said was not allowed.
The statutory consultation for the application 261429 has now ended.
Sports Direct has recently been advertising for staff for its new unit in the town, which Wokingham Today understands will include a Game and USC offering – similar to its other stores.
The company has yet to respond to enquiries from Wokingham Today about its planned opening date in the town.
