BREXIT: #redwoodout is a thing. Should John Redwood resign as Wokingham MP after Remain vote?

Redwood Vote

Wokingham borough voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union on Thursday.

Its verdict saw REMAIN win by more than 13,000 votes and see the borough be at odds with one of its four MPs, John Redwood. Neighbouring Reading borough also voted to REMAIN, and part of Mr Redwood’s constituency also falls there.

Since we announced the result in the early hours of Friday morning, people have taken to Twitter to call for Mr Redwood to resign. A hashtag, #redwoodout, has also been set up.

However, Mr Redwood has instead released an open letter to his constituents pledging to continue to represent them in Parliament.

What do you think? Should John Redwood resign, or should he carry on? Have your say in our comments below.

Here’s some of the things you have been saying on Twitter about John Redwood since Friday.

What next for John?

Just had an awful thought: what’s John Redwood going to do with the rest of his life now that he’s “won” over Brexit? Sudukos ? Solitaire?

— MichaelWhite (@MichaelWhite) June 24, 2016

Well, he could resign…

@MichaelWhite Given that Wokingham was fairly solidly for Remain, there have been calls locally for him to resign as MP

— Helen Belcher (@HelenCBelcher) June 24, 2016

Yep, resign…

#EUref Wokingham voted 56.7% Remain. John Redwood must listen to the people and resign #Wokingham #berks #Berkshire #rdguk

— Reading West (@ReadingWestside) June 24, 2016

Another call to resign…

@johnredwood will you now resign as you voted leave but your constituents in Wokingham voted remain? #VoteofNoConfidence

— Craig Northway (@twitnorthway) June 24, 2016

And another…

Wokingham voted to #Remain so John Redwood needs to resign. Doesn’t represent his constituents. #Untenable #EUreferendum @bbc5live #bbcnews

— Chris Adams (@cp_adams) June 24, 2016

A call for independence

Since #Wokingham voted #Remain, could we now declare ourselves independent of our swivel-eyed MP please? https://t.co/b02UZx874F

— Alan Gairey (@gairey) June 24, 2016

Stand down immediately

@johnredwood you do not represent the people you represent. Wokingham voted remain as they have a brain. You should stand down immediately

— Niko (@branston567) June 24, 2016

Why won’t you talk to me John?

@johnredwood lip service. Why won’t you talk to me? #wokingham #redwoodout
