A GROUP which aims to make cycling safer and fun for children is on track to provide more organised family rides .
The Kidical Mass Movement will host marshalled events in Reading and Wokingham which have attracted increasing numbers over the past few months.
The latest ride this Saturday in Wokingham follows a one and a half mile on-road route starting and ending at Elms Field.
Kat Heath, one of the organisers said it was accessible for all kinds of cyclists.
“We started the rides last year and now run them every month in Reading and Wokingham. The February ride in Caversham had 38 people on various types of bikes turn up, from families with toddlers, adults with physical mobility issues on recumbents to tandems, terns and tag alongs.
“These are families who do most, if not all, their journeys by bike and not car and who are being let down by a car centric town. The rides give a voice to the next generation by showing their reality of getting around a town.
“But they’re not only a serious ride to show how our town lacks safe infrastructure they’re a fun and meaningful way to spend time with your family while supporting a great cause.”
Kidical Mass is a grassroots organization that campaigns for safe and accessible streets for children to walk, cycle, and play. They believe that a town that is good for kids is good for everyone, and they are giving the next generation a voice.
On April 15, Kidical Mass will be organizing a family-friendly ride from King’s Meadows, starting at 2pm. The ride will be a fun and relaxed way for families to explore their local area and enjoy the benefits of active transportation.
In addition, on May 7 and 8, Kidical Mass will be taking part in a worldwide Kidical Mass weekend with rides in Reading, West Reading, and Wokingham. The rides will be a celebration of the organization’s efforts to promote clean air and a habitable planet, as well as their goal to move away from car-centric cities and towards connected parks and more green space.
