Football journalist Ollie Holt, who writes for the Daily Mail, has given his thoughts on all 92 grounds in the English Football League.
Among the grounds ranked in the list were Reading FC’s Select Car Leasing Stadium, originally known as the Madejski Stadium, which the club moved into for the start of the 1998/99 season.
The Royals fans have known some magical times at their home, including winning promotion to the top flight for the first ever time in the clubs history as they smashed the Championship record with 106 points in 2005/06.
Reading celebrated promotion to the Premier League again in the 2011/12 as champions of the Championship under Brian McDermott.
However, Holt has ranked Reading’s ground in 80th place out of the 92 clubs.
He said: “I was persona non grata for a while at the Select Car Leasing Stadium when I took exception to Reading taking out two Chelsea goalkeepers in one match back in 2006, when Steve Coppell and Wally Downes were in charge at the Madejski Stadium.
“Even if the Mad Stad doesn’t have an awful lot of personality, I have only respect for the Reading fans who have endured so much under the ownership of Dai Yongge and are fighting for their club.”
Meanwhile, Reading’s rivals Oxford United were ranked in 90th place as he stated: “The Kassam Stadium was getting my Covid jab there during the pandemic.There is a magnificent and uninterrupted view of the Frankie and Benny’s in the mini retail park that abuts the ground.”
