SOME of the best beers in the country will be served in Twyford this weekend thanks to a charity beer festival that will be bigger and better than ever before.
The Twyford Beer Festival runs on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 and to meet demand the marquee is twice the size of last year’s.
And new this year will be the opportunity to meet the brewers on a special Friday night event. Organisers are putting on this additional night so that real ale fans can learn more about their favourite brews, try some beers they’ve never had before and enjoy a preview of the event which will take place from noon the next day.
Tickets for the event cost £10 are limited and have been selling fast.
Organiser Ian Wisdom said: “The Twyford Beer Festival has been growing in popularity in recent years and we’ve raised thousands for charity in the process.
“Our new meet the brewers event is proving to be really popular. Our guests are looking forward to taste some unique beers, chat with those that brew our lovely ales and get a sneak preview of the 2017 festival.
“It’s going to be a great evening and we’re looking forward to serving these extra special pints.”
The festival will once again be held on the King George V Memorial Fields behind Loddon Hall and Saturday’s event will include a mixture of food, beer and live music.
There will be 40 different real ales, ciders and wines to enjoy and eight different bands have been booked to entertain visitors who arrive from noon, before the curtain comes down at 9.30pm.
Not all bands have been announced yet, but the first act will be The People’s Front of Judea, who will perform from 1pm and are back by popular demand after making an appearance at the festival last year.
The event has a series side in that it will raise money for Orchid, the male cancer charity.
“This is our eighth year and we’re still free to enter,” Mr Wisdom explained. “We have a simple tariff: entry is free and pints cost £3 each or £1.50 for a half-pint. We’re in a marquee, so if the weather is bad you can still have a great night out.
“All the staff on duty give their time for free so we can raise as much money as we can for Orchid.”
Mr Wisdom said that families and dogs are welcome and the site is easy to access for those with special needs.
