Paddling pools open and ready for the heatwave

The paddling pool at Woodford Park in Woodley

Parents looking for somewhere cool to take their children during the summer sunshine will be pleased to learn that two paddling pools are open as normal.

Woodford Park’s pool had been closed for maintenance earlier this year but it’s now fully open and, as we found out earlier today, is packed with children looking to cool down as the temperatures soar.

A staff member told The Wokingham Paper that it had been so busy they had had to order extra ice creams for tomorrow – but there should be enough to go round.

A limited number of free car park spaces are available in Woodford Park itself, alternatively there is paid for parking opposite the Oakwood Centre and just a short walk away.

California Country Park on Nine Mile Ride and near Finchampstead also has a paddling pool.

It’s open from 9am to 6pm but will be unstaffed as the school holidays have yet to begin.

There’s also a £2 charge for anyone who gets into the water and a parking fee of £1.50 for up to four hours applies.

Jackson’s at California Lake Cafe will also be open, serving ice creams, cold drinks and meals to visitors.
