The chairman of the Conservative party, Richard Holden MP, was in Wokingham last weekend ahead of Thursday’s local elections.
The cabinet minister campaigned alongside Sir John Redwood MP, local Conservative councillors and activists, ahead of elections to Wokingham Borough Council and the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner.
A statement from the party said that the visit came as local residents are hit with a string of failures from the Liberal Democrat-led Wokingham Borough Council, from increasing
parking charges to reducing the frequency of bin collections.
Holden emphasised the importance of electing local Conservatives who will focus on lowering Council tax and delivering better public services, as well as backing Matthew Barber to continue his work as Thames Valley’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Pauline Jorgensen, Conservative Group leader on Wokingham Borough Council, said: “It was great to have Richard in Wokingham on Sunday to see first-hand the Liberal Democrats’ failures in running Wokingham Borough Council.
“From increasing parking charges on our hard-pressed high streets, to reducing bin collections for hard-working residents, Wokingham has been let down by the Lib Dems, propped up by Labour.
“On Thursday, residents can instead elect local Conservative champions who will always deliver low Council tax and better public services.”
Richard added: “It was great to join Sir John and Conservative activists from across Wokingham to campaign for local Conservatives ahead of Thursday’s poll.
“Voters in Wokingham, and across the wider Thames Valley, can vote for local Conservatives who will always stand up for residents and deliver better public services for less Council tax.
“They can also use their vote to re-elect Matthew Barber, who has done a fantastic job as Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner – delivering 800 extra police officers and making Thames Valley a safer place for you and your family.”
