Reading failed to have a shot on target as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield United.

Scott Marshall took the temporary reins following the departure of Paul Clement and almost guided the Royals to a goalless draw, but the Blades struck twice late on to take all three points.

ANSSI JAAKKOLA: Not called into too many saves. Perhaps could have come to claim the ball for the second goal – 6

ANDY YIADOM: Saw a lot of the ball in the first half and produced a solid enough display – 6

TIAGO ILORI: Used his pace and composure well early on but was fortunate to see McGoldrick and Sharp miss after losing them in the box – 6

TYLER BLACKETT: Fortunate to get away with a careless backpass but made some vital defensive interceptions – 7

CHRIS GUNTER: A good display from the Welshman, producing a goal-line clearance and regularly got forwards – 7

ANDY RINOMHOTA: Continues to grow with each performance. A couple of nervy moments at the back but stayed composed and recovered well – 8* (star man)

LEANDRO BACUNA: Good energy in midfield as always and formed a good partnership with Rinomhota – 7

JOSH SIMS: Couple of sloppy early passes and struggled after being handed a rare start – 4

DANNY LOADER: Showed some nice touches playing in behind the striker but the game passed him by in the second half. Was booked after being caught out on the wing – 5

GARATH McCLEARY: Good on the ball but end product lacking. Lengthy goal drought goes on – 6

MARC McNULTY: Had one shot blocked from a corner but struggled to get into the game before being withdrawn in the second half – 5

SUBS:

SAM BALDOCK: Came on up front but aside from one half chance was anonymous. Scored a late own goal – 5

MO BARROW: Could’ve done more to prevent the cross for the first goal and offered nothing going forwards – 5

SONE ALUKO: Not on long enough to make an impact – n/a
