Top player Daniel Moses made a welcome return to Reading’s Division One as his new club, Sonning Common & Peppard A lost out 4-6 to leaders Kingfisher A.

All four points came from Daniel who managed to go the evening without dropping a set in both singles and doubles, where he teamed up with Gary Morgan, and all three singles (vs Martin Adams, Hari Gehlot and Ross Saxby – all previously unbeaten).

Tilehurst RBL A consolidated their fourth place with a 7-3 victory over Sonning Common & Peppard C with Jon Willis gaining an excellent maximum, outscoring his colleagues Keith Winter and Marc Brent.

Only Danny Dockree scored for the visitors, narrowly pipped in the closest of fashions by Jon 5-11 9-11 11-8 11-6 16-18.

Sonning Sports A put in a strong team performance to defeat Sonning Common & Peppard D 9-1, David Croucher and Paul Savage in particularly good form with maximums. For the Commoners Nigel Maltby lost an entertaining opening tussle to Nick Sears while Simon Berry managed a win over Nick.

Meanwhile at Tidmarsh A the honours were shared with Sonning Sports A. In-form Paul Savage starred for the visitors taking his three singles in fine style and ably backed up by Nick Sears with a double.

As well as taking the doubles, all three home players, Antony Baker (two), Duncan Groves (one) and Lee Calcutt (one) contributed, the latter’s only victory saw him scraping past Bob Woodmansee 11-6 12-14 7-11 11-6 11-9.

Denise Weller and Tom Astle each had fantastic wins over Phil Mead as Sonning Common & Peppard B hosted Kingfisher C but, despite several other close encounters, could not avoid a 2-8 defeat as Matt Isherwood and Nigel Keedy remained unbeaten for Kingfisher.

Our Lady of Peace A won a hard-fought match at Tidmarsh C 6-4 in Division Two in a contest that saw six sets go to a fifth game decider.

The highlight performance was Tidmarsh’s Richard Hudson beating Darek Kaminski in four. Tidmarsh B, who have had a slow start to the season, had an excellent 8-2 win at Kingfisher G with new signing Robert McMillan recording an impressive maximum.

The set of the night saw Robert recover from two games down to beat Kingfisher Captain Parvin Baishkiyar 11-9 in the fifth.

Springfield A’s good form continued as they beat Kingfisher E 6-4 in another match that featured a lot of long close sets. Best win of the night was Springfield’s Rob Wilkie’s victory over Satej Jaywant 13-11 in the fifth.

After a cup-week break, we are back with the excitement we left in Divison 3. The week started at Sonning Common, where SC&P E hosted Kingfisher I. Despite losing 8-2, SC&P E put in a really good effort against the divisional leaders.

There were close games where half of them went to 5-set games. Huzeyfe Borazan and Eyup Odemis were on form with their trebles. Ian Davenport was very unlucky as he lost all his games in the fifth and on a couple of occasions he failed to convert match points.

The next evening Sonning Sports B hosted OLOP B. Despite their hard efforts, they could not win the match and lost 6-4. Once again, Mark Carless was the Player of the Match with a treble. Captain Cris played up for doubles, and he made a difference by helping his team to get a precious point.

Kingfisher J were beaten by Tilehurst Methodists C 7-3. Steve Christelow shined with his treble and made a huge contribution to the win. The highlight of the match was when he won against Eapen John in the fifth set: 8-11 11-6 11-8 9-11 7-11.

The last match of the week was at OLOP where OLOP D won 8-2 against a good Tidmarsh D team. In the absence of their captain, Patrick McIntosh took the lead and with his treble, he had a big impact in the game.

His teammates Alona and James joined him with 2 wins, but the highlight of the match was the doubles game, which was very close in the fifth set: 10-12 15-13 8-11 11-8 11-9.

In division fpur, Sonning Common & Peppard F took Tilehurst RBL ‘C’s 100% record with a 6-4 win, however it was the Tilehurst team who went top of the division after winning their four sets.

For Sonning Common Gerry Bacon hit a three straight maximum by beating Jim Brent 11-9 11-4 11-4, Paul Treadgold 11-8 11-6 11-5 and Geoff Johnson 11-6 11-7 11-7. Sonning Sports D hammered Tilehurst Royal British Legion C 8-2 to go top of the table, James Miller and Cris Reynolds both gained hat tricks for the Sports team, for James they were all three straight.

Our Lady of Peace F beat Kingfisher K 6-4 with Gopi Ponnapalli winning all three. Sonning Sports C shared the spoils with Kingfisher L, Stephen Reader was the star by gaining a maximum for the Sports as the teams battled out a 5-5 draw.

Ludo Coulliard hit a treble to help Springfield C beat Sonning Common & Peppard G 6-4, while Sonning Common & Peppard F beat Our Lady of Peace E 7-3, Oliver Bonser did the business by gaining a three straight treble.
