A BOROUGH music group will tell the story of the legendary bishop of Myra St Nicholas (Santa Claus) at their next concert.
The centrepiece of Wokingham Choral Society’s programme, titled English Masters, will be Britten’s Cantata St Nicolas, which tells the story of the legendary bishop of Myra St Nicholas (Santa Claus)
The choir will be conducted by their musical director George de Voil and accompanied by pianist and organist Ben Giddens, and Chameleon Arts Orchestra.
The dramatic piece includes the voices of pupils from St George’s School, Windsor Castle, with tenor Nicholas Madden singing the part of St Nicolas.
The work is unusual in that the audience are invited to participate in the singing of two congregational hymns.
The program will also include music from the St Georges choir, and two of Henry Purcell’s anthems, O Sing Unto the Lord and Jehova, Quam Multi Sunt Hostes Mei.
These works showcase Purcell’s ability to combine intricate harmonies with expressive text settings, and offer a glimpse into the rich musical tradition of the Baroque era.
The event will take place at All Saints Church, on Saturday, November 16, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £20, or £5 for students and under 18s.
