WE’VE got some news for you that is out of this world.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, the Wokingham Winter Carnival Committee has teamed up with The Wokingham Paper to launch a special space-themed contest for primary school aged children.

And the winner will see their re-entry touch down on the front cover of this year’s Winter Carnival programme – it’s the greatest prize in the galaxy!

The children’s art competition is open to all children in Wokingham borough aged between five and 11. The theme is A Space Adventure.

Organisers are hoping that the contest will help youngsters with their countdown to the event, held on Sunday, November 24.

“We are launching this competition so that local children can get involved and have some fun with our ‘space theme’,” said Sally Dowdle, marketing chair for the event.

“This is a community event and what better way to show this than to see the winner’s artwork on the front of our 2019 programme.”

There are two age categories – ages 5-8 years and ages 9-11 years. As well as the overall winner being featured on the programme front page, the winners of each category will have the chance to ride on Santa’s train in the Parade plus get some art-based goodies too.

There are also some runners-up prizes to be won.

And all entries will be printed in The Wokingham Paper in the run-up to the Winter Carnival.

The judges are local artist, Cathy MacLennan; Wokingham Paper editor, Phil Creighton and Wokingham Library’s Stock and Outreach Manager, Heather Dyson.

The closing date is Saturday, September 14 and full details on how to enter, together with rules can be found on the link from the Wokingham Winter Carnival website

How To Take Part

It couldn’t be simpler to take part, just create a bright and beautiful picture for the Wokingham Winter Carnival that you think shows ‘a space adventure’, remembering that it is for a winter carnival!

Once your picture is complete, write your name, age and your parents or guardian’s email address and telephone number on the back. Then just drop your picture in to any staff member at Wokingham Library before closing on Saturday 14 September 2019. (Pictures can be handed in during opening hours any time after the competition has commenced so entrants do not need to wait until 14 September). If you would like your picture back, please write “please return” on the back and you will be able to collect your picture from Wokingham Library between 2-24 December 2019. Any pictures not collected by this date will be recycled.
