AN ART appreciation group is offering an opportunity to enjoy a free talk about the life and work of Victorian writer and novelist, Charles Dickens.
The Arts Society Wokingham will hear from guest speaker Simon Whitehouse, a (recovering) actor, lecturer and award winning London Blue Badge guide.
Simon will be giving an illustrated talk to members and guests of the society, on the theatrical career of the well known author.
At seven years of age, Dickens made his debut reciting a poem, sitting on a pub table.
The little boy developed a lifelong passion for the theatre.
As a young man he attended the theatre every night for three years, and was inspired to create more than 2000 intensely theatrical characters of his own.
As well as writing, he produced, directed, and starred in lavish productions staged in purpose-built theatre spaces in the family home.
First night audiences included Queen Victoria and The Duke of Wellington.
To discover more about Dickens, people should make their way to King’s Academy, Binfield on Monday, July 20.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available from 7.15pm with the talk beginning at 7.45pm.
Admission is free and guests are most welcome, but with places limited, people are advised not to delay.
