Police have urged young people to stay away from two derelict buildings in Bracknell after reports of people entering the sites increased.
Thames Valley Police said officers had seen a rise in reports of young people accessing – and in some cases damaging – the former cinema at The Peel Centre and the former NHS building on Skimped Hill Lane.
The force warned that entering the buildings posed a number of serious risks, including exposure to hazardous materials such as asbestos and mould, injuries from broken glass and exposed metal, falls from unsafe elevated areas, fire, and contact with human waste.
Officers said they believed the locations were being shared and promoted on Snapchat as places for “urban exploring”.
In a message to young people, the force said: “Please don’t. Our officers have been inside both buildings – they are not interesting and certainly not worth risking serious injury for.”
Police also appealed to parents to speak to their children about the dangers of entering the sites.
The force said officers had contacted several parents in recent days to collect their children after they were found at the locations.
It added: “We would much rather not be making a call to inform you that your child has fallen from height or been seriously injured.”
