Wokingham-based charity SHARE Wokingham has teamed up with award-winning Finchampstead-based Elusive Brewing to launch a new beer with a purpose.
Named Baked!, the limited-edition brew has been created using surplus bread, and will raise £1,000 to support SHARE’s vital work tackling food insecurity and food waste across Berkshire.
The beer, which will be launching at this year’s Party in the Park in Wokingham on June 7, will also be available in pubs, bars, and independent shops throughout the borough.
Proceeds from the beer will go directly to SHARE Wokingham, which currently helps more than 2,000 people every week access fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste.
Claire Revie, founder of SHARE Wokingham, said, “This is such a fantastic project.
“it brings together our core values of community, sustainability, and creativity.
“Working with Elusive Brewing has been a joy, and we’re pleased that a product made from surplus bread will help us continue redistributing more than 40 tonnes of food each month to those who need it most.”
Claire and members of the SHARE team joined Elusive Brewing earlier this month to take part in the brewing process – helping ‘mash in’ the surplus bread and malted barley that forms the base of Baked!.
Even the by-products of the brew will be put to good use: the spent grain and bread are donated to a local Berkshire family to feed their Highland cows – part of a circular approach that minimises waste at every stage.
Andy Parker, founder of Elusive Brewing, added: “We’re proud to collaborate with SHARE Wokingham on this beer.
“The idea of turning surplus into something special, while giving back to a local charity doing such incredible work, just made total sense.”
The Baked! beer will be served on tap and sold in cans with a bespoke label celebrating the collaboration.
Locals are encouraged to support by raising a glass and helping SHARE reach their £1,000 fundraising goal.
